ART OF THE JOURNEY

Bangkok Lane

Staying on Bangkok Lane was like stepping into another time. Built pre-war by Cheah Leong Keah in 1928, the entire street full of these spectacular colonial buildings are amazingly all still owned by his decendents.

We crashed at the 'Dwell' bed and breakfast which had refreshingly high ceilings which kept the temperatures comfortable, charming 19th century tile work and a nice big balcony which was ideal for spending the warm Penang night reading on. We only stayed the one night down Bangkok Lane, but not without trying the legendary Mee Goreng Sotong. What it lacked in looks it more than makes up in flavour!
